Off for Christmas....

Well, tonight after prayer meeting I am going home for Christmas. While I'm there I am hoping to see a couple of my friends from up there. Then, on Sunday, Christmas Day, at church we are having a candlelit service at 7PM. On Boxing Day, I am going to Saskatchewan to visit my Grandma and Grandpa for a few days.

Then comes....

NEW YEARS!!!!!

And I am looking forward to seeing everyone there. Yay!

And then, once I get home, I have another week of holiday.... fun!

Rambling

Well, I have realized that a pattern is emerging on my blog, namely that it seems to consist of lots of lists and surveys, which can get tiring after a while, so I thought I'd actually write something myself.

Ummm... what to write..... Let's see, earlier I posted some blogging ideas... what were they.... Oh. I really have posted too many surveys. They are off the main page. Wow. I haven't gone through a page that fast yet. Hmmm..... none of them were that interesting- either that, or I already did that.

Well, today I.... ran out of the house really fast this morning so I could catch the bus, as opposed to walking in the cold, and accidentally left my bus pass, Bible and keys behind. So I ended up having to pay for my bus ride, and get the keys from my manager.... I nearly left my cell phone behind too; luckily, my roomie gave it to me as I was leaving.

I went Christmas carolling last night for young people's, and it was SUPER COLD!!!!!!!! Brrr...... It was nice, though. It was Christmasy.

Wow. I am being snarky to an old friend of mine on MSN. She deserves it though. Honestly, some people..... Growl. All I ask for is a little respect, and all I get is..... Hurrumph.

Well, sorry for leaving on such a downer..... Toodles.

Late night update

It turns out that one of my classmates got the instructor to explain the assignment a bit better, and I did it wrong! Gah! Oh well, it only needs revisions, not a redo.

What else have I done on my list? Well, I did laundry and dishes. I put my locker com into my wallet, and I found my student ID card. I even did something not on my list, and cleaned my purse out.

9 things on the list got done today. I think that is pretty good for one day's work.

Update: The evening

Well, after I updated you on my to do list, I went and had a lovely nap. It wasn't on the list, I know, but it was SO worth it. After I got up I had a shower (instead of a bath) and I am doing my laundry. And I have been organizing my papers...

Onto more things!

Later: I have now sent out my resume to 2 out of the 3 places. Perhaps I should have supper now.

Update: 2 hours later

Well, I have my psych paper about half done, and I have hit a roadblock. I have also phoned Bonnie, so I can send out resumes now. I have also started perusing my sister's website. I have made arrangements to go Christmas shopping with my mom and sister tomorrow (probably). I even fit some minor procrastination in!

2:30- I finished my paper! Harrah!

Female bloggers:

If you were a he, what would be your name? I dunno, my parents knew I would be a she.

What would you do for a living? I would hopefully be a social worker, but possibly not, as there are so few male social workers.... I may have been a teacher... well, in either case, I'd still be a student.

Would you be married? Not yet. Still too young.

What kind of woman would you like to take for a date? Ummmm..... intelligent, compasionate, funny,....

What would you miss the most of womanhood? I would miss being able to wear a dress. Amung other things, but that was the first thing that popped into my head. But I love men's clothing, so I'd still have fun with that.

Male bloggers:
If you were a she, what would be your name?
Would you like to wear dresses and make-up, or would you stay “natural”?
What would be your hobbies?

Hotmail Died

You have hotmail to thank for this blog post. Were it not dead, I would likely not be posting. Now, the only question we have is: What should I post about?

Should I post about the lengthy list of end-of-term assignments that I am steadily (and sometimes not so steadily) working on paring down? Should I post about my theories about what I affectionately call "the vibe", "my muse", or "inspiration"? Should I post about my to do list for the day? Should I post my rant that I didn't know I had about residental schools? Should I post, for that matter, small segments of my essays that may, to the outside world, be interesting? Should I post my Christamas wish list? Should I post a list of movies I want to see?

So many decisions, so little time...

What I am wearing: blue jeans, black t-shirt with laces, and off white cardigan.

Instead, I think, I will post about nothing.

Snores and Craziness....

No, the post title does NOT mean that I snore.

I do not as of yet have a bed frame, so I sleep with my matress on the floor. Unfortunately, the person in the apartment below me snores like mad. The first couple times it was funny- Rebekah and I got a good case of the giggles. But now it is starting to get more annoying.

So I was really sleepy this morning. I dragged myself out of bed and had breakfast. I got dressed. I made lunch. I ate lunch. Wait a second... I ate lunch?

That's right. I made myself a bagged lunch this morning, and before I realized what I was doing, I had sat down and ate it. I was on the second last bite when it dawned on me what I had just done. Then, there was no more time to make another lunch before the bus, so now I must go to Safeway and buy food.

It is starting to look more like a living room...

Well, when I first moved in here, the biggest piece of furniture in the living room was the desk. We also had a bookshelf and a rocking chair.

However, that all changed this weekend. My parents brought a couch in, we borrowed a TV and DVD played from Grant, and Rebekah got a microwave from her uncle. our place doesn't echo anymore.

Yay!

15 Pages!

OK, so I know that 15 pages does not sound long to Maryanne, who has written her thesis and is thinking on her dissertation, or to Ky who is writing her thesis.

But I have never written anything that long before in my life. Ever.

Coincidentally, the major portion of that 15 pages was written yesterday. I got at the college at 11:30, and didn't leave until I had finished and dropped off my assignment at 7:30. It was a long day. However, the nice thing is that I don't have anything else to work on until after I get back from Pinelow.

Hopefully, there won't be snow there. We now have snow here.

I'm sorry for my truancy...

So, I know it has been a while. I apolagize.

But... I have moved!! I am now in my new HUGE apartment near the church, with a roomie, and in this apartment building are 10 YP living here! 'Tis sweet!

Yes! I win!

So, in my Intro to Social Work Practise class, we did group presentations, and my group gave our presentation on Culture. I was the one that made up the 4 page summery of the chapter to hand out to everybody.

So, now, I am doing the assignment to go with the class yesterday, and I discover that the questions follow my format exactly! I got all the important parts, in other words, I got the essense of the chapter! Yes!

I like being right.

17... There's a Song... Strawberry Wine, 17...

You Are 17 Years Old
Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe.
13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.
20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.
30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!
40+: You are a mature adult. You've been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.
What Age Do You Act?

Yay for scientific accuracy

So, I am working on my psychology assignment. Or rather, procrastinating from it. I am hving rather a lot of difficulty, as it is a Weetags experiment. (Weetags are little stick figures and there is a characteristic that makes them a weetag, and then you have to figure out which ones are and aren't).

So, anyway, we were supposed to foister this on an innocent child, ask them questions, and write it up as a scientific experiment. And we have to make up our own research question and hypothises. My problem is the person I was going to get to help me after church on Sunday had to leave really suddenly, before we could sit down to do it. And I'm not going to see another child until it will be overdue.

So where does this leave me? You guessed it. I am making up the results of the experiment.

Sad, isn't it?

I was a slacker today...

So this week, I have been having trouble with waking up on time. On both Tuesday (when I forgot to set my alarm), and Thursday (when I turned it off), I woke up with ten minutes left to get out to the bus. So, this morning, I woke up when my alarm went off (6:30), and dutifully did not turn it off until I was sure I was awake. Then, I convinced myself that I would only stay in bed for one more minute. Well, I woke up an hour later (7:30) with five minutes to spare until the bus came.

Well, it was decision time. What should I do? My choices were:
1. Run out the door without breakfast and make the bus in time for my 8AM class.
2. Get up, and at a normal pace, get ready for school, and show up to English 15 minutes late.
3. Go back to bed until I woke up, as long as I made it in time for my psych quiz.

I chose option 3. What can I say? Sleep is beautiful.

So I got up at 9:15, had a nice leisurely breakfast, and headed to school. I arrived in English at 10. Unfortunately, the part I had hoped to miss (Going over the short story "The Yellow Wallpaper") they only started on when I arrived, so that was disappointing.

On the plus side, I was in a lovely mood all day, and feel well refreshed.

For the sake of posting...

Brrr! Today has been a cold day! All the buses I've been on have been freezing cold, and the office was chilly today. Not to mention, the house is chilly. The only time I've been warm is on the LRT.

In other news.... nothing. I honestly have nothing interesting to take note of. However, I will say... What should I have for supper?

Yay for looking like an idiot!

So I was supposed to meet my field placement supervisor here in downtown Edmonton for a conferance this morning.

Last night I discovered I lost the address. So I came down here this morning anyway, and as soon as the office opened, I called to ask for the address.

No one in the office knew it. Or even had an inkling of where it might be. The people Iam supposed to meet don't have cell phones.

So now I am in the downtown library, waiting til close to lunch, when I will go to the office and meet up with my supervisor after the conferance. If I get bored, I may go explore a mall I found tucked away down here.

How humilating.

Later: After I left the library, I went to the indoor mall I discovered and bought a really cute t-shirt on sale for 6 bucks. Shopping really does help.

Heartthrobs and napping...

Your 80s Heartthrob Is
Scott Baio

Now to look him up to find out who he is...
Hmmm... never see any of his movies, but he aged well.

So I got home from job placement today, thoughly exhausted, and went straight to bed for a nap. I woke up after midnight, having had more sleep than the night before already, but with a paper to finish. I suppose I'd better get cracking...

I hibernated for two days...

So for a couple of days I went into hiding. I was on a reading binge.

Yup, only a few short hours after A Breath Of Snow and Ashes came out, I owned it. I must have been one of the first done it. It was so, so, so good!

However...
Now come the consequences.

I have done no homework. It is overtaking me! Aaaahhh!!!! Run!!!!! It's the homework bomb!!!!

I rally ought to get to it- but I have done a fair bit today. I went throuh a big list of jobs at placement- programing, ect., I went to see Jamie's basketball game (which she won, yay Jamie!), I cleaned my room, and am starting my laundry.

See? I'm not that bad. Now to attack the homework bomb...

The Meme Theme...

Things I Don't Like That I Probably Should:
Hot chocolate, tea, coffee, most seafood, most raw vegetables, any and all Lord of the Rings, Hanging out in large crowds, likely more

Things I like that I know I shouldn't:
That 70s Show, romance novels, Christian rock, spending hours on MSN, McChicken meals, likely more

P.S.- Has anyone from Saskatoon heard of the possibility of you all and Calgary coming to Edmonton for Halloween? Us Edmontonians are confused.

Guess What?

So, guess what?

If any of you have seen my MSN name lately you may have a clue.

I'm getting a roommate!

That's right. My lonely existance, at home, holed up in my room, all the time, has a light at the end of the tunnel.

Rebekah is moving to Edmonton! We'll be roomies.

Not in the same place I have now, though. We'll get a new place.

It'll be so much fun!

The picture

Wheee!!!

So, I am supposed to be working on my self-disclosure journal for one of my social work courses, but I have little inspiration, so I'll do this instead.

I have been waiting for this book http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0385324162/qid=1127511508/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-7094930-0691336?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 for forever! And guess what? It comes out on Tuesday!!!

Wooohooo!!

That is right, everyone. Diana Gabaldon's latest, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, comes out on Tuesday. And even though I have no time to read it, and little money to buy it with, I WILL buy it. On Tuesday. And I will read it, too.

Of course, that is precisely why I should get to work. I won't have time to do the assignment next week...

Fun With Buses

Here is an inventory of all the buses, and my reasons for being on them, so far today:
65- to school. Went through a deathly boring sociology class.
Not sure of Number- to Mall, dropped off library books.
65- Went home via school.
64- Went back to the school to get onto bus
8- to go for my interview on the other side of town. Got off in close to my place because I got a call, cancelling the interview. Ran for bus
74- Back to school.
65- Went home.

Is There a Princess of Procrastination?

If so, I am she.

Things I am currently procrastinating from:
  • Lunch- I am too lazy to go to the kitchen, and I am already in that slightly fuzzy stage that tells me I have to eat.
  • Studying- I got tired of thinking about ethics. What can I say?
  • Taking care of those KD leftovers- In fact, now I even have Sidekicks Pasta leftovers, half a jar of peaches, 3/4 a jar of saskatoons, and... I think that's it.
  • Going to the bank- I need to activate my new ATM card so I can...
  • Buy envelopes- so I can mail a letter.
  • Taking out my gabage- Not too much more will fit into it. (Or the kitchen one either. I guess I'll have to take care of it, even though officially it isn't my responsibility.)
  • Laundry- I'll likely run out of clothes again before I do it.
  • And I'm certian there is more....

Jen's Adventures in Cooking

Tonight I was inspired to cook something a little special for myself, a nice little treat.

So, I took the ham steak out of the freezer and defrosted it. I got out the trusty KD and then realized my 2- burner stove would be a bit crowded with a pot and a frying pan, so I decided to do it microwave style.

I really got into puttering around my kitchen. I even opened a big juice jug to be extra special. I set the table, all the while, following my directions ever-so-carefully.

The end result?

It left much to be desired. My steak hadn't defrosted properly, so it was tough in the middle, plus I had had the heat on too high, and scalded it. A word to the wise: Don't nuke KD. It was hard and tough and chewy, unlike the normal wonderful stovetop method.

So, I ate it. Unfortunately, I still have half the KD as leftovers, which I am too frugal to throw away. Perhaps, tomorrow night, I should make something nice to go with my leftovers.

I also took a break from studying today (well, I did study too, just not a lot). I read a cute little Love Inspired book, and really enjoyed myself. The break from the textbook was nice.

I am wearing: my flannel purple PJ pants with snowmen on them, my pink shirt (still on from church), a dove necklace, a white, blue, and pink cardigen, black socks, and blue slippers.

Tomorrow I am planning to: Go to my sociology class, demand to find out what my placement is, visit David in the hospital by my house, take back a library book, buy milk, possibly see my mom and grandpa, and study.

Yay! Q's!

Your most marked characteristic? Ummm.... Do they mean physical characteristic? Or do they mean personality? Well, I'll assume they mean physical, and so I'd say.... ummmm... that my hair is brown? It's not like I have a huge disformity, like a huge lumpy nose.

The quality you most like in a man? I like gentlemen.

The quality you most like in a woman? I like people who look for the good in people and who can laugh at themselves.

What do you most value in your friends? Goodness, this is like class, being asked hard questions all the time. I value each one's uniqueness.

What is your principle defect? My crooked arm. (I took that one physically too.)

What is your favorite occupation? Social work, of course. (That one was easy.)

What is your dream of happiness? This one is harder... I don't know.

What to your mind would be the greatest of misfortunes? To lose your entire family in a car accident, or fire, or something.

What would you like to be? Why not what I am?

In what country would you like to live? CANADA!!!! WOOOHOOOO!!!

What is your favorite color? orange.

What is your favorite flower? I really don't have one.

What is your favorite bird? Once again, I don't know.

Who are your favorite prose writers? Diana Gabaldon. (That was another easy one.)

Who are your favorite poets? I dislike poetry.

Who is your favorite hero of fiction? Jamie Fraser

Who are your favorite heroines of fiction? Elastigirl

Who are your favorite composers? The only one I personally know- Lane.

Who are your favorite painters? kindergarten kids do an excellent job.

Who are your heroes in real life? Jesus, He's the only one we should idealize.

What is it you most dislike? I dislike lots of things, such as eggplant, people throwing their differences in your face, running, colds, and snobs.

What natural gift would you most like to possess? Either musical talent (violin or piano) or artistic ability

How would you like to die? In my sleep when I am very, very, very old with no pain or illness

What is your present state of mind? I'm thinking about my congested chest, and my cold nose.

To what faults do you feel most indulgent? In myself? Or others? In myself, procrastination. In others, messiness.

What is your motto? Motto.... odd, I've never thought of it before. I'll get back to you on it.

I'm an idiot...

So I just logged onto MSN Messenger, and I was like, Yay! Ky's on!

(Ky is likely wondering why she has no idea what I am talking about.)

Anyway, I started chatting to her and I find out that it (gasp!) isn't Ky.

For months, whenever I have sent Ky an e-mail it has not reached Ky.

It has reached some girl in Ontario.

I have since corrected the problem, of course. (Not enough m's).

However, I am still humiliated.

I've been disillusioned...

So, last night, I decided to get a head start on my reading for class and read one chapter for class. It was 20 pages long, not that bad, right?

Ha! It took me two hours! I can usually finish a BOOK in two hours! I highlighted stuff, resisted distraction (That part was supremely difficult), and discovered that underneath all the big words and complex sentance structure, there was some valuable information on basic themes of being a social worker.

Normally I am not one to complain about big words, or complex sentance structure, so I know it was hard.

This morning I realized I didn't remember any of wht I'd written, so I typed up the highlighted parts, and got 4 pages. This time it made more sense, so it looks like I'll have to do that for nearly everything. Sigh.

People did warn me college would be tougher than high school....

All Different Now

Well, I shall try to list the changes that have occured in the last week:

1. I am unemployed.
2. But it is not a bad thing bcause I am a student.
3. I moved out.
4. I got a cell phone.
5. I got a new purse.
6. My computer is hooked up.
7. I no longer drive, instead I use public transit or walk (good thing too, with gas prices these days).
8. I actually can't think off another one at the moment. But it will come to me. Odd...

Wowzas.

So I bought a computer today. At first I thought I wouldn't pay much- the tower, moniter, printer (which is a printer/copier/scanner together), keyboard, mouse, and speakers all came together for really cheap. But then you had to add the programming, the warranty, the techno disk thing, the chord, and other various accessories. I almost died when they told me the price. Then I handed over a wad of cash as thick as my arm and only got $1.25 back. I nearly burst into tears there in the store. Actually, tears are coming to my eyes thinking about it right now...

So now I am on a mission: Get all of that to my new apartment where it is insured. Only then will I be truly at comfortable again...

Ow....

Today was an excellent day. Instead of working, I got to go horseback riding. I haven't been in about 10 years, it took a little while to get used to it. I had a ton of fun, though. I went with 2 of my coworkers- my boss's daughter, and the girl who drew Alex an eyebrow for the fasion show last year after his was shaved off.

The fun, however, came with a price. My butt hurts. Muscles that I didn't even know I had- they hurt too. I didn't think the rump had this many muscles. It was worth it, though.

Random Bits

I got a raise!!!! Granted, I am only keeping this job until school starts, but this is the first raise I have ever gotten in my life. This makes me happy. (Obviously.)

In other news, the swimming pool where I live that I have never been to before has a kiddie pool, and it is so shallow that I sit in it. That's right. I just plunked myself down. It was quite relaxing at work.

I have decided to elliminate the VERY specific place names from my blog, in the light of new information that people I don't know actually think that I am worth reading about. No offence meant, that did sound kinda rude. Sorry.

Wednesday, August 3, 2005

Another Post...

OK, so Saskatoon is a no-go. Oh well. I'd have been there when lots of people were going to Pinelow.

In other news, I CAN cook!!! Hazzah! I shall not starve after all next month and the years afterward! I shall simply eat Chef Boyardie (no idea on how to spell that, sorry.) What can I say? They make awesome ravioli.

I have also officially decided that the cutest part of a horse is the nose. It is so soft and felty, and the easiest place to touch. The nose it is.

As well, apparently people I don't know like my blog. I didn't know that people I don't know even read blogs.

More later....

Travels

For those of you who may not realize this, it is EXTREMELY tiring to go to Victoria and back in a single weekend, driving through the night, and taking no extrasleep during the day. It is not for the faint of heart, and only for the mildly insane. All my coworkers thought I was crazy.

About going to Saskatoon... my car will not get me there and back. And there are only 4 spots along the way that I know people to help me out- one being home, and the other being my destination. So I am trying to figure out a way to either get my car fixed or some other trick up my sleave. Hopefully I'll get there.

And, I'm planning on coming along if anyone from Edmonton goes to Pinelow for the last weekend. If all goes as I hope, I'll only spend, like, 3 weekends out of the summer at home, 2 which will be spent moving.

Oh, and Camp HeHoHa with work will be way less stress and a lot more fun than I'd planned on. Amanda will be coming along as my helper. Yay!

Thursday, July 28, 2005

Namecalling...

Some idiot nearly ran me off the road this morning! Right on Opal Road, this semi pulling 2 trailers passes me WITH a car coming. As if that wasn't bad enough, he started switching lanes back into my lane when only one of his two trailers had passed me! What a moron! So I braked and moved over as much as I could, and he kept moving over! The turdpile! His rig came within 2 feet of my car, and the ninkompoop didn't care at all.

Hrrmph. If I hadn't been turning of the road in a mile, I would have passed him. How on earth did a lamebrain like that get a drivers license?

In happier news, tomorrow I am going to Victoria and next weekend I am going to Saskatoon, so I'll see a bunch of you then. I'd better go hom to pack...

A Recluse

A have come to the conclusion I am turning into a social recluse.

"Why?" you ask.

Well, I haven't called anyone just to chat in so long that it is unbelievable. Since, like, before camp. I've thought about calling, or dropping in, on people, but I just usually go "Meh. I don't feel like it." So I don't.

I feel perfectly fine. I'm not upset or melancholy at all. I'm just a recluse.

It really is entirely odd....

Urg...

I went to the zoo and camping yesterday.

Sounds like fun, yes?

No.

I was working, my kids were grumpy, irritable, spazzed out, defiant, whiny, and, in a word, bratty.

Now work is done, and I should be chillaxin, but instead, here I am, grumpy as ever.

Til next time....

Sunburn...

Oooh.... my body is yelling at me. I went on a camping trip last night with work, and I got sunburned (We spent the day at the lake.) Hopefully it will fade to a nice tan for the weekend. In the meantime, it hurts.

I had fun at camp last week. We went late, because my dad had to change the axel on the car (a side effect from when I hit the ditch.) I also went shopping last week and got lots of stuff. I have to ban myself from spending anymore money for the rest of the summer.

Toodles, everybody.

Monday, June 27, 2005

Oh no, no more time!!

Alas, I have run out of time to talk about other stuff, including orientation, which I promised Debbie I would do. Sorry. I'll try later.

I got tagged again...

Well, Meghan tagged me back, so here it goes:

Things you enjoy, even when no one around you wants to go out and play. What lowers your stress/blood pressure/anxiety level? Make a list, post it to your journal... and then tag 5 friends and ask them to post it to theirs.

1. Reading- Ah, the joy of abandoning my stresses and leaving them for someone else's. Plus, there is no need to think. I just let the story take me.

2. Ranting- It's awesome to tell my problems to someone who doesn't really care too much about them, so then it bothers niether one of us.

3. Driving- I really don't know what it is about it. Maybe it's about having control.

4. Doing paperwork- It gets me thinking about other things and I feel like I'm doing something useful.

5. Cuddling- With a pet, with a kid, with a person, with a stuffed animal- it's all good.

6. Sleep- It's true that everything looks better in the morning.

And now I tag... Maryanne, Ky, Lyn, Debbie, and... and... whoever else reads this blog.

Book Tag

I have been tagged to write about books, then, I get to pass it on.

Last Book I Bought: Authentic Beauty, be Leslie Ludy. I recommend it to any girl out there. It is currently out on loan to Amanda, because it is such an awesome book that it is impossible to NOT share it.

Last Book I Read: Oohh.... What was the title?? I forget. It was an awesome book anyway, and you should all read it, except I can't remember what it is to tell you. I read through them too fast, that I have no idea as to the title.
Oops, that was the 2nd last book I read. The last one was Stardust of Yesterday, a ditzy romance that I read in an hour and a half about this chick who falls for a 700 yr old ghost, then she breaks the curse, and he is a man again.
The last nonfiction book I read was Dr Phil's Family First, for studying purposes. (I'm trying to get into the habit of studying again.)(Who am I trying to kid. It's not again).

Book I Am Currently Reading: The Dark Moon Rises, by Denise Williamson. It is set in the pre Civil War South (1830s) and is very blunt about slavery. I've yet to finish it, so I can't tell how good it is.

Next Book I Plan To Read: I actually have three waiting for me at home. When Stars Begin To Fall (sequel to the one I'm reading), The Five Love Languages, and The Purpose Driven Life.

Five Books That Mean A Lot To Me: (Oh, this is hard.)
1. The Bible. To try to describe it would ruin it, so I'll leave it at that.
2. Authentic Beauty by Leslie Ludy. This book really changed how I view purity and relationships. I really recommend it to any woman out there.
3. The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. (Yes, I know I am cheating.) Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, Drums of Autumn, Fiery Cross..... These are awesome books, impossible to fit into only one catigory, lots of odd little historical facts mixed in, very real characters, and they continue the story pas the happily ever after. Plus, they totally have re-readability value.
4. Swiss Family Robinson by Johann Wyss. An odd choice I know, but it is an old favorite of mine, despite of, or more likely, because of, how impossible it is.
5. The O'Malley Series by Dee Henderson. It's interesting how devoted these characters are to their own created family, and how they all become saved and fall in love. Plus, they all have exciting careers, and each one has an well written mystery. All round good books.

And now I get to tag people! I tag Meghan and Debbie. Have fun! (That took 30 min)

Ooh-la-la...

Don't you all just LOVE getting haircuts? I mean, not only is it a serious change, but my hair is actually styled for once! It is so awesome for the self-confidance!!! Isn't there a song that goes "I feel good!", or something like that? Anyway, I feel good!

I'll leave everyone to their grumpiness, because overly happy people are annoying. Next time I blog, I'll be on a more even tempo.

It's Official

I have just come to fully appreciate that I am a true blue procrastinator.

"How did this come about?" you ask. Good question.

You see, I have only 2 things to do for a scholarship application due at the end of June, or is it July? Anyway, all I have to do is visit the county office and type up a letter. I REALLY don't want to do it yet. After all, I have a while yet, and I sent all my other ones off close to the deadline. And yet I could get it done early.

I realized all this after typing out the addresses of my letter.

I am also procrastinating on my paperwork- it got water damaged.

One thing I did not procrastinate on, though, (though I never worked on it- it sort of fell into my lap) was finding an apartment. I have a cheap apartment 4 blocks from college. Yay.

Update: I finished typing my letter, so I suppose I am not so bad after all.

I am such a copycat....

Since I must needs give credit where credit is due, I stole this idea from the "Life of Turner" blog. The origanal will doubtless be much more entertaining than the copycat. So here is the life of Jen by Numbers:

10 000- in dollars, the amount of money I need for school and living expences next year.
1500- in dollars, the amount of money I actually currently possess. (How does that work?)
4- The number of real (by real I mean more than a two day favor) jobs I've had in my lifetime.
2- The number of the aforementioned jobs that have been in libraries.
2- The number of th aforementioned jobs that have been with kids.
2- The number of times I've been on TV
4- The number of phone numbers I have possessed (including cells).
3- The number of places I've lived (One was acctually an in-between-houses place)

6- The number of kids I will be working with this summer.
66- The lowest mark received in high school (once).

4- The number of times I've been to the USA.
1- The number of places I've been to in the USA.
0- Times I've been further east than Saskatchewan.
12- CDs I own.
1- CD I've given away.
19- The number of years I have resided on the planet Earth.
4- Weddings I've been to in my life.
Tons- Funerals I've been to in my life.
1- Concerts I've been to. (For interest's sake, it was Starfield.)(I enjoyed it.)

27- Items in my wallet.

I have no idea what I'll write about...

...so here it goes.

I just got the mail, and Grant MacEwan sent me the date of the social work orientation- June 23, so I'll have to miss work, but that's better than if it were a week later, when I'd have to miss camp.

Today I am working with some new clients, two boys about 8-10 years old, from 3 til 10. I'll be doing the same tomorrow. Then I'll begin working with them in July again. My summer schedule is starting to come together. I will be working with 6 kids, all of them boys. There will be 4 year old twins, a 5 year old, these two boys I'll be working with tonight, and the 9 year old I've been working with all along. I won't be working with the 16 or 17 year olds any more.

I am wearing: jeans and my old pathfinders shirt

I am annoyed because: I arrived at the library too late to get a good computer, now I am stuck on the sucky one, and the jr high boys next to me are yacking about junk, girls, and more junk. This is a library!!

My plans changed yesterday because: instead of going to Edmonton, I had to work.

Oops I did it again!

This post could also be entitled "That Road Is Cursed!"

For the second time in my life I have hit the ditch, and it was on the same road that I did it on the first time.

Just so those people who know local geography can picture this better, I did it right by Lyons' and Todd Smith's places.

Some of you may have heard me mention how terrible the gravel roads in our area are. So here I am, putsing along (OK, I confess. In no way was I putsing. A more appropriate adjective might be zooming along.), and I hit this HUGE crater in the middle of the road. My wheels must have twisted a bit while floundering in the bottom of this crater, for when I shot out of the crater, my car was completely out of control. I remember swinging one way, then the other, and I knew I was going in. I did hit the brakes cuz I was afraid I might kill myself at the speed I was going. I do remember praying a really fast one word prayer, then I was headed for a ditch with trees, swung the other way, and landed in the other ditch with mud and water. The car slammed to a stop, and the driver's side tires went *squelch* into the mud up to its axels.

All of that happened in about 3 or 4 seconds.

So I pocketed the keys, got out the passenger side door, and yelled at my car. (I know, that's really benificial.) I started out for the Smith's when the neighbors from by the crater came out of their yard. (They'd heard the squeal of brakes and me yelling at the car.) We spent several minutes gazing at it all (that section was oiled, so you could see rubber from all 4 of my tires) and I found out that a couple days earlier someone else had done the exact same thing as me, except they stayed on the road for another 100 meters. We all decided I was lucky I hadn't rolled it, and then they helped me contact Lyons's to pull me out.

The lesson? Prayer works. God was protecting me. And my lead foot had got to go.

May Long

Well, I am back from May Long weekend. It was lots of fun, and I miss it already.

On the way down, my sister and I were in different cars. It was a rather nerve racking trip, as on the double highway, both of these drivers (names omitted to protect the guilty) spent ~45 minutes driving at 180 km/h. I put up with that. Then, on the single highway, the driver my sister was with was doing really risky passes. So, I phoned him up and totally spazzed at him, and he shaped up.

One afternoon we had activities where we split into groups. I was in group 7 and we totally had the most team spirit. Our team cheer was "Give me a 1! One!".... and so on until 7. Our lost call was "coocoo!". We even had a team hanshake which was snazzy. 'Twas awesome.

On the way home we had problems with someone's (names ommitted to protect the innocent) car. It was shaking and clanging all the way. For a period of time, Every two or three minutes it would backfire, and in the car behind we could feel the vibrations of it and see FLAME shoot out the tailpipe. That's right. Flame out the tailpipe. We did manage to limp the car home, where it will be buried.

That's just the highlights, but more fun stuff happened, it's just that I won't explain it cuz most of my readership was either there or won't know who I am talking about.

Pretty, Pretty....

So the Bargain Shop just opened up in Redwater. My mom and I went on Monday and I spent a bunch of money, some reimbursed for work. Then I went today just to poke around and found a dress. It's a bit unusual, something I wouldn't usually buy, but it made me feel beautiful, so I bought it. It's a sleaveless dress, knee length, and sorta tan and pink colored. It's a summer dress, so I'll wear it to Maryanne's wedding.

I love it when I find pretty dresses like that. Plus, it only cost $14. Isn't that great?

A Rave, Not A Rant, For Once

This monitor is seriously annoying. Everything is way oversized on it. Anyone within 10 feet can read whatever I am working on.

You know what? Diana Gabaldon books (Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, Drums of Autumn, The Fiery Cross, next one out in September) are awesome! It is impossible to classify the kind of book it is- it has mystery, romance, fantasy, drama, historical, and who knows what else- so that you can't fit it to just one genre. It is full of odd little things- bitties of interesting and useless, therefore all the more interesting, information. Characters are believeable, I could go on and on. In other words, if you are looking for a good book to read- try it out.

Not a Quitter....

This is really getting hard to keep up, you guys. I'm not one of those chatty people that can just chat on their blogs. (Like you, Maryanne.) However, I am not a quitter, so...

I have a staff meeting today. I did a bunch of typing for it this afternoon, and discovered that I and one of my coworkers (the one I work with the most, thank goodness) are planning an activity for everybody in a couple weeks. Scary. Of course, at least it isn't just me. That would be terrifying.

After supper I am meeting with one of the students I am tutoring, whose attitude is getting.... lethargic. He's 17, which is plenty old enough to take responsibility for his own learning, and he's not, which is frustrating. I don't have to drive to Smoky Lake on Friday, my client got double booked with a school psychologist. So Friday will be less stress than usual.

I got my wedding invitation to Maryanne and Chris's wedding today. Yay! It turned out, I have that entire weekend off already, and there is a family reunion just outside of Regina that same weekend, too.

I am wearing: My sister's jeans, and a blue buttoneddown blouse, and my fuzzy jacket, cuz it is windy.

I'm resurfacing....

Well, I am finally starting to resurface under the mounds of scholorship papers that were dragging me down. The 4-H ones are in their envenope, ready to be mailed as soon as I leave, the Rutherford one is sent off, and the rest I have a few weeks til they have to be gone. Free money is awesome!

I likely have another couple joblets (clients in my job) on the way. One as a reading tutor to a high school girl, and another 13 year old boy in Gibbons. I have to rearrange my schedule with the boy I tutor, as there is a conflict with someone else in there. Juggling, juggling....

May Long is right around the corner, and none of the Edmonton people have sent off their reservations yet. How can we be this stupid? I must make some calls about that....

I am wearing: my blue jeans with a whole in them (as soon as I buy a new pair of jeans, I'm making these into cutoffs), and a red t-shirt.

Yuck!

It deleted it.....

I MUST stop procrastinating......

I'll do it again later if I have time.....

It's been a few days...

Well, I've been keeping busy. My dad is home this week and keeps wanting some help outside. He is trying to build a sheep shed this week. I have also endured through a rather yucky situation at work, which hopefully after tomorrow will be all cleared up (Yay for coworkers!)

I've started on some new projects (why do all my projects involve so much paperwork?) I am:
1. Applying for scholorships to hopefully reduce the size of my student loan by a sizable amount. I need ~$10 000 for next year, and I am nowhere near that amount.
2. Starting to look for a cheap but nice place to rent in Mill Woods (SE Edmonton) next year. Doesn't look like their are any roomies available, too bad.
3. Trying to keep up on my own paperwork from work. I was SO proud of myself on Tuesday- I was COMPLETELY cought up-- but now I'm behind again. :(

This weekend, the young people are coming out to my house to do some work for my dad- we're going to make a bonfire pile. After that we are having supper and young people's. Then the girls are having a sleepover at Kelsey's.

I have just finished writing an essay for a 4H scholorship- about safety in the home and farm. I narrowed mine down to be aimed at parents with young children.

I am also working more hours at work- full days on Tuesdays (I'll be in Newbrook) and Fridays, which, of course, means more money (yay!). Hopefully I'll be able to start saving up more (why can't I? This is rediculous.)

I am wearing: jeans, runners, and my 100% Canadian. EH! shirt.

I am happy because: I have discovered a new shampoo. My mom accidentally bought the wrong kind and told me to use it up, and now my hair is nice and unfizzy.

I am relieved because: I won't have to face an irate parent alone- as it happens, my coworker and I are going together.

I am annoyed at myself because: I kept forgetting my papers at home, and thus, my paperwork will be late (again) because it is unsigned.

I cheered because: When filling out my timesheets I discovered that for the month of April I passed the $1000 gross income mark. May 30 (when I get that money), here we come!!

Songs

Here’s a blog meme called the CD mix challenge, to which I got off of Janice's blog (Yay Janice!) In Blogspeak, a meme is an idea that is shared and passed from blog to blog, like a question posted in one blog and answered in many other blogs. So here’s the challenge:

From your own musical background, construct a CD song list in the following format:

1) A favorite political track. Battle of New Orleans by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
2) One of those tracks that make you dance on the dancefloor no matter what. Ready to Run by the Dixie Chicks
3) The song you’d use to tell someone you love them. You Say It Best When You Say Nothing At All by Allison Krauss
4) A song that has made you sit down and analyze it’s lyrics. Independance Day by Martina McBride
5) A song that you like, that a two year old would like as well. The Barney Song by... Barney?
6) A song that gives you an energy boost. Every Little Thing by Hawk Nelson
7) A song that you and your grandparents (would probably) like. Let Them Be Little by Billy Dean
8) A song that you really liked when you were 14-16, and still really like now. Leaving on a Jet Plane by John Denver
9) A sad song that would be in the soundtrack of the movie about your life. Cry by Mandy Moore
10) A peppy song that would start the opening credits of the movie about your life. I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack
11) A good song from a genre of music that no one would guess that you liked. She's Not Just A Pretty Face by Shania Twain
12) A song that you think should have been playing when you were born. Only Yours by Mandy Moore
13) A favorite artist duo collaboration. I dunno, If I figure it out, I'll add it.
14) A favorite song that you completely disagree with (politically, morally, commonsenically, religiously etc.) Strawberry Wine by Deana Carter
15) The song that you like despite the fact your IQ level drops several points every time you listen to it. Let's Get Retarted in Here by Black Eyed Peas
16) Your smooth song, for relaxing. Jesus, You're The Sweetest Name of All by Tommy Coomes
17) A song you would send to someone you hate or are mad at. Anything from Dora, a little kids TV show that is millions of times worse than Barney
18) A favorite track from an outfit considered a “super-group.” Concrete Angel by Martina McBride
19) A song that makes you reminsce about good times with a family member. Where I Come From by Alan Jackson
20) Your favorite song at this moment in time. He Knows My Name by Tommy Walker

I dithered to the very end...

Well, when I saw Bonnie today to tell her my answer, I told her I was still dithering. So we sat down, and crunched numbers, increased my hours with some kids, and got me with about the same money as the more boring option. Seriously, hanging out with someone else at their job is very boring. So I have chosen option number one.

We didn't stay in the city last night with Saryn, she had to work. We are planning on doing it again tonight. I felt rather useless volenteering today. There were more adults than kids there. 'Twas quiet. I am working on the song thing, but man is it ever hard! Good job to those who managed it so quickly.

I am wearing: jeans, heeled shoes (I feel hot in them- shoes make or break an outfit, don't they?), and a blue t-shirt.

Today, I have:

Eaten: corn flakes and a glass of milk, I am actually rather hungry
Accomplished: Decided the course of the summer, Volenteering, Internet stuff, and talked to Saryn
Not yet accomplished: Work (kid to park and tutoring), Paperwork, seeing Saryn

The next decision on my agenda: Where will I live next fall? Any ideas, feel free to offer them. I welcome suggestions.

My weekend

Well this weekend Edmonton had lots of visitors. Ian and Angela and Saryn were all here. On Sunday, a bunch of us went out for lunch to Burger Baron, then Laura and I hung out in Saryn's hotel room. It is one of those shmansy (one of my made up words- fancy) places downtown with an actual bellboy type person in the lobby. Tonight, after I'm done work, we are going into Edmonton to have a sleepover with Saryn.

Before that, Saturday night I was going to my car after young people's and I realized I'd left my keys in the locked car. So instead of going home, Laura and I stayed overnight at Hofer's. So we had fondue with Julie and Jenna before going to bed. I had an excellent weekend.

I am still dithering (my new favorite word) about what to do for the summer. I have a choice: money, or experience/fun. Right now money is looking good (I'm nearly broke), but theother job is way more amusing.

Oh well, a few more hours to crunch time.

Choices, Choices...

So I just came from talking to my boss, and I have a choice on what to do for the summer. I can either:

1. Work with 4 boys: a 9 yr old who was my first kid to work with (I like his mom), a 4 year old I started with last week (His mom is nice, though we aren't on the same wavelength- I'll write about my wavelength theory one of these days) (Did I write about him? One of the stubbornest kids I've ever met- one of the twins.), a 5 year old I'm meeting tomorrow whose mom is supposed to be really nice, and a grade 8 kid I don't know whose mom is supposedly a pain in the neck ( none of the workers want to deal with her, but I can charm adults really easily). 35 hrs a week, lots of driving, more working with the other workers.

or:

2. Work with one 17 year old boy that I am already tutoring. I'll be helping him get a job and hanging out at his work. (There is a job open at Coral's chicken farm...) After work I have to find other stuff to do. He doesn't really talk much to me, but he is polite and always opens the doors for me. I'm one of the older workers, lot of the workers are his age, so they would be inappropriate to work with him, which is why it is offered to me. This choice has less stress, less paperwork, and less driving. 40 hrs a week, more working away from everyone else, which is what I've been doing so far.

So I have til Wednesday to choose. With both options, I will stop working with the kid I am with the most. His behavior is going downhill, so he will go with his overnight worker, which is a relief. Some days I am convinced this kid doesn't like me. Whichever option I don't take, another worker for just the summer will do. I get first pick because I have seniority. (I've never had seniority before, that is really cool.)

Today

Not much is going on today.

I am wearing: jeans, belt, stripey t-shirt, jean jacket, sandels, no socks

I am happy about: Ummmm...... Oh, my cat was adorable this morning. She kept walking from the fence onto my shoulder, purring and demanding attention while I was doing up a gate.

I am not happy about...... The ache in my back and the cow busting down the fence.

Songs stuck in my head..... Some piano ditty they are playing at the library.

What I want to accomplish today..... I want to get one of the kids I work with to make a resume.

What I have accomplished today..... Chores, so nearly squat all.

Wow, I have just read this over, and, man, I totally sound glum. I'm not as much glum as... meloncholy (Did I even spell that right?) Oh well, more later.

I got in!!!

So yesterday I went to pick up the mail, and guess what? There was a letter from Grant MacEwan, and I got into the social work program! Now that I'm in, I just have to worry about all the practical stuff- where to live, a bit of paperwork, and how to pay for it all...

But for now I won't worry about that. I already paid my deposit, so I am all good that way. I'm just going to float on the aura of success for a little while...

It went "poof!"

So I wrote out this huge blog, and then I accidentally pushed Save as Draft instead of Publish, the link didn't work, and poof, it was gone.

So sad. Anyway, what did I write?

I ran into Zac yesterday at Mac's when I was getting a slurpee (Yes, everyone, slurpee weather has offically arrived!!!)

I didn't work today, I got a rare day off. I was planning on volunteering this morning, but my bed was so warm and comfy, and my house was cold..... you get the idea. So instead I lazed around, did chores, went to the library after forgetting to eat lunch, got my sister from school, then came to this library to reblog. Oh, and I paid my bill at a little shop in town.

I'm pretty busy tomorrow, I'll be with lots of clients, though a different girl is planning for 2 of them, and the third I'm taking him to a church group for kids, so they plan the second half of it. I believe I'm painting with him for the first half.

This weekend, the girls have rescheduled our girl's night. No idea what we are doing though. In YPs now, the idea is that the first weekend of the month is boys/girls seperate, second is fun, and the other two or three are Bible studies. This is good, because I don't know how long it's been since we did fun stuff at YPs.

You know, I think I have covered all the basics, Let's hope I don't lose it again...

OK this is the next day, and guess what? It did go poof yesterday! But Blogger saved it for me. Yay!

Tuesday, April 5, 2005

My dayplanner is confused....

So for today, in my dayplanner I had from 4-8 working with one of my kids. The it turned out that I couldn't, because paperwork hadn't come through yet. (Not mine, someone else's.) So I erased it. Then I planned volenteering, and getting Laura from the library. Then I was at volenteering, and my mom phoned, and they need me to work at the daycare from 2-6. So I went home, had lunch, and came to a different library, cuz I'll get to the one my sister will be at just as it closes, so I won't get any computer time there. Wow, my plans have changed a lot today.

It is a good thing I work at the daycare, though, otherwise I wouldn't be making any money today, and I didn't make any yesterday either.

I got an e-mail saying that we are having another girl's YPs by ourselves. Last weekemd, the girls planned on minigolfing, but then the boys joined us on our girls outing. Bit wierd, eh?

P.S.- I was reading this after I published it and realized- Wow, That sounds hectic.- Don't worry, it's not really.

Monday, April 4, 2005

Well, I had my birthday. My last day of being 18 sucked, but I'm doing better now. Amanda and Kent from the Bible school came to my place and we hung out and played Balderdash and the watched The Cinderella Story. I went shopping yesterday, and bought clothes.

I don't know of what else is up with me besides work related stuff... which is going fairly well, though I can't work with one of my clients- no contract from government=no money, but things are finally rolling to get 3 more kids- with another worker. And my paperwork is all done... Yay!

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don’t search around and look for the “coolest” book you can find. Do what’s actually next to you

My sentence is: (Well, there are only 2 sentances, it is the end of a chapter, so I'll write the second one...) It didn't occur to me until I reached the courtyard that I'd forgotten all about his shoulder. From: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.

Her books are awesome, lengthy, but awesome.

Friday, April 1, 2005

I'm better now...

Yay! I have comments. That must mean my blog is actually being read. I'm not one of those people that says no comments, no blog; but it is nice to get them anyway.

And my birthday party is not completely being dissed, Amanda and Kent are planning on coming.

And my problems at work will be dealt with. We're having a meeting Monday.

And our sheep that prolapsed herself (shoved everything out... y'know...) is doing OK, and the vet was nice on the fees.

I am 19. Wow, I feel old... my teen years are almost over.....

Happy birthday to me.....

My Day Sucked

My day sucked. I'd like to rant, but most of it is of a confidential and/or personal nature. So... My day sucked. Need I say more?

Wednesday, March 30, 2005

My Day

Well, I slept in today, cleaned my room (a bit), and did a good deed. My coworker's car broke down so I took her client's home to Radway for her. When I came to the library, I ran into lots of people I know- Danielle, with her clients and busted car, someone I know from the learning center, and Amanda with Anabelle and her other roommate.

I am wearing: My other pair of jeans (also from Wal-Mart), my belt (Wal-mart), and a light purple t-shirt that happens to belong to my sister.

Things yet to do today: Go to work. Today I am taking a client to my house to look at the animals.

What I have been putting off: My paperwork. Yuck, and it is overdue.

What I am doing for my birthday: Likely work (possibly swimming), and hopefully party (no definate yeses (how do you spell yeses?) yet.

Back from Feast

So over Easter, I went to North Battleford for church camp. I was a little sleepy, but overall, not too bad.I had fun visiting with peoples and the services were really good, although I was sitting 3/4 back because Jamie, Kelsey, and I couldn't find a spot to fit us closer up.

So on the last night, a bunch of us (Ky, Lynn, Ian, Robby, Alex, and I) decided to go to Tim Horton's so we all squish in to Alex's car and go, hang out, have fun, exetera. So we are coming out to go back, and I go open Alex's unlocked car door, and say "Get in" cuz I was on the end. Then Alex gives me a funny look, and is, like, "that's not my car". So I look, and sure enough it isn't, so I scream, slam the door shut, and run over to his car.

Obviously, we all had a good laugh at myself. I am such a ditz.

So I've been back for a couple of days and am starting to get into the swing of things again.

In the last 2 days, the productive things I've done are: Go to work (twice)- once to Oddysium, and once to Redwater, finished an orange skirt (I love orange), and done various things online.

I am wearing: Jeans (not even a year old, and already wearing out, I wear them so much), and my sister's pink shirt (I needed a solid color for work today), and damp socks from playing in the snow.

I have also: Made my plan for next year if Grant MacEwan doesn't accept me. I will move to Saskatoon, go to the University of Saskatchewan, and take courses towards a social work degree, to lighten my course load later, and to do 2 things I've always wanted to do: Get on with my life next year (enough hanging around) and to live at Saskatoon at some point in my life.

Things I have yet to do: Clean my room for Friday- my 19th birthday (and party). That is for tomorrow, since I don't work until 5.
